2. How much you owe.  If you owe a great deal of money on numerous accounts, it can indicate that you are overextended. However, it’s a good thing if you have a good proportion of balances to total credit limits.

As odd as it sounds, closing credit card accounts that you have no balance on can actually effect your credit score in a negative way.  An account with no balance that is still open shows that you can be responsible with credit given to you.  So, if you have no balance on a credit card think about keeping the account, but not charging on it.
